A Hot time

Today started out as any normal Saturday for me; I rose up early and prepared for the day of visiting the kids on the church bus route. We had a wonderful time meeting with the kids and their families and then I returned home to spend some time with my grand kids.

Later on in the afternoon they went with their mom and dad to visit away for the evening. It was about 6:30 pm that I decided to put me something on for dinner. I decided on three burritos and some left over mashed potatos; nothing to difficult to fix and then I could find something else to do with the rest of my quiet evening at home.

I put the pot of oil on the stove to deep fry the burritos and went into the other room to wait for the oil to heat up. I must have dozed off or something because the next thing I heard was a loud bang as if something had exploded. I looked up to see the house filled with smoke and flames shooting into the air from the kitchen.

I ran to the kitchen to get the fire extinguisher and found that it was empty. So here I am standing in front of the stove, the pot on it in full blaze and flames eating away at the cabinets and shelves above the stove. What to do now? I grabbed the nearest towel from the rack and attempted to grab the burning pot from the stove, it took me four grabs into the flames to snatch it up. Upon doing so I threw it out the door and proceeded to wet another towel to beat down the flames that had now attached themselves to my kitchen cabinets and shelving.

In a few moments the fire was put out, the only victims were the glass top stove with all of the fancy electronic controls along with a couple of towels and the foodstuffs that had been on the shelf above the stove. There was some slight smoke damage to the walls, however some cleaning and a new paint job will take care of that.

I encurred some slight burns to my arms and face but not to serious, a little aloe gel on them and they are fine.

For a moment I thought that there were flames all about me, not nearly though. That explosion that I heard turned out to be a can of non-stick spray that had been on the shelf above the stove. It was the thing that God used to warn me that there was a dangerous situation brewing. You see there was no smoke alarm in the house to draw my attention to the impending fire that was about to begin.

Here is the thing though for those that have not put their trust in Jesus Christ to save their soul, there will come a day when the flames of Hell will surround them for all eternity. There will be no fire extinguisher, nor wet towels to put out the flames. The pain and torment that the lost will face will not be soothed by an aloe gel that was kept in the refrigerator.

My friend just as God used that exploding can to warn me that danger was approaching, he has used the Bible to warn mankind that judgement for sin is coming, there will be a place of eternal pain and suffering and that place is called Hell.

Good people as well as bad people will find themselves there if they will not trust Jesus Christ as the savior.

Why is that?

  • (Romans 3:10) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (KJV)
  • (Romans 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (KJV)
  • (Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)

(Matthew 25:41) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (KJV)

(Revelation 21:8) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (KJV)

Fear not though because if you are reading this then you have a chance to escape this coming judgement.

(Romans 5:8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

(Romans 10:9-10) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (KJV)

(Romans 10:13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (KJV)

I believe God also wants us to use smoke detectors.

Good hub, thank God you didn't burn your house down.

Truth is truth whether we choose to believe it or not. There is now a smoke detector in the house.

Thanks for the comments
